| DRIVING FOR Semi - EXPERIENCED OPERATORS. | ||
With no formal training but the ability to handle the truck these operators need to appreciate and understand safe working practices with regard to the operation of the truck. The employer also has to be sure of the skill of the employee and then give formal permission, as required by the HSE. This course covers all aspects and brings both the employer and employee up to the highest standards. This is the most popular of our courses. All this is done to the ITSSAR standard of training |

| DRIVING FOR THE COMPLETE NOVICE. | ||
|
With no skill the novice needs to have time to both absorb the theory and then acquire safe handling ability of the lift truck. Gain confidence in his ability and new found skills. Appreciate the Health and Safety side of his new found working environment on a lift truck. To achieve this to the ITSSAR standard courses are set as follows. |

| DRIVING FOR OPERATOR Refresher | ||
|
There is no specific requirement to provide refresher training after set intervals, but even trained and experienced lift-truck operators need to be re-assessed from time to time to ensure that they continue to operate lift trucks safely. This assessment, which should form part of a firm’s normal monitoring procedure and be formally time-tabled to ensure that it is done at reasonable intervals, will indicate whether any further training is needed. In addition to routine safety monitoring, re-assessment might be appropriate where operators have not used trucks for some time, are occasional users, appear to have developed unsafe working practices, have had an accident or near miss, or there is a change in their working practices or environment. Employers may find it useful to record re-assessment in their safety monitoring records. Employers can, of course, decide that automatic retraining after a set period of time is the best way of ensuring that employees are adequately trained but, where this approach is adopted, it will still be necessary to monitor performance in case retraining is required before the set period ends. The guiding principle is that employers need to maintain the competence of operators to use lift trucks safely through a laid down, formal process of monitoring and assessment. At present there is no legal requirement to re-fresh. It is however recommended that an operators driving skills may need to be assessed every 3-5 years. It is also recommended for operators who are coming back to driving after a lay off period, or have not driven for a while, or just need reminding of safe driving practices attends this course.

| Certification & Testing At the end of most courses the standard Accrediting Bodies Forum 2000 practical and theoretical test where possible will be conducted for Reach and Counterbalance trucks. This is the current recognised and recommended standards practical operators test, agreed by all HSC recognised accredited bodies. For all other classes the AITT/ITSSAR standards test will be applied where appropriate. Operators are issued with an encapsulated wallet and full sized certificate. Companies are issued with an A4 sized certificate, the trainees original practical and theoretical test marking sheet, course record and written trainee report where appropriate, as proof of training. |
